Weifang Institute of Technology

Weifang Institute of Technology is a full‑time general undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the People’s Government of Shandong Province. It was founded in 2005. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the University fully implements the Party’s educational policy and fulfills the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education. Upholding its motto “Diligence, Simplicity, Integrity, Courage; Seeking Truth and Pursuing Innovation”, it adheres to the school‑running philosophy of “Rooted in Culture, Based on Physical Education, Pursuing All‑round Development”, and follows the school‑running model of “integration of university‑enterprise cooperation and integration of industry‑university‑research‑application”. The University consists of the Main Campus (Qingzhou) and the Central Campus (Weifang), covering a total area of more than 2,100 mu with a construction area of 1.15 million square meters. The Main Campus is located in Qingzhou, a national historical and cultural city and one of the ancient Nine States. Nestled at the foot of Yunmen Mountain, it boasts profound historical and cultural heritage. Spanning over 1,100 mu with a construction area of more than 400,000 square meters, the campus is built against mountains with lush vegetation and is reputed as a forest‑style campus. The Central Campus sits in Weifang, an emerging national comprehensive transportation hub city with a comprehensive transport network that “connects the east and west, links the north and south”. It takes one and a half hours to reach Beijing and two and a half hours to reach Shanghai via the eastern route of Beijing‑Shanghai High‑Speed Railway. It takes merely 27 minutes by high‑speed train to reach the terminal of Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport, and only 10 minutes from the campus to Weifang North Railway Station. Covering more than 1,000 mu with a construction area of over 750,000 square meters, the campus blends harmoniously with Bailang River National Wetland Park and is known as “a university within a park”.

The University has 14 secondary schools: School of New Energy Engineering, School of Robotics, School of Modern Agriculture, School of Intelligent Manufacturing, Business School, School of Intelligent Medicine, School of Pet Medicine and Biotechnology, School of Oceanography and Chemical Engineering, School of Management, Normal School, School of Music and Dance, School of Psychology, School of Marxism, and School of International Education. It also has three teaching institutions: School of Continuing Education and International Cooperation, Department of Mathematics and Physics, and Culture & Sports Center. It offers 59 undergraduate programs and 38 junior‑college programs covering ten disciplines including Literature, Science, Engineering, Management, Economics, Education, Art, Law, Agronomy and History, forming a teaching and research framework with distinctive characteristics of Weifang Institute of Technology.

Attaching great importance to the development of high‑level majors, the University advances in‑depth integration of industry and education and explores new models of collaborative talent cultivation. A high‑level applied‑talent training system has basically taken shape, with steadily improved teaching quality. The Energy and Power Engineering program and Radio and Television Directing program were selected as Shandong Provincial First‑class Undergraduate Program Construction Sites in 2020 and 2021 respectively. One teaching achievement won the Second Prize of Shandong Provincial Higher Education Teaching Achievement Award; 30 courses were rated as Shandong Provincial Excellent Courses; 5 courses were recognized as Shandong Provincial First‑class Undergraduate Courses; 2 courses were identified as Shandong Provincial Demonstration Courses for Ideological‑Political Education in Curricula; and 23 research projects were approved for Shandong Provincial Teaching Reform Research Projects.

The University boasts a high‑quality teaching faculty with both professional competence and moral integrity, as well as an efficient, rigorous and standardized management team. Following the talent‑introduction philosophy of “not necessarily owning, but making good use of talents”, it gathers outstanding intellectuals. Some core undergraduate courses are delivered by registered professors from universities such as Shandong University and Shandong Normal University. Deans of secondary schools are appointed from professors of well‑known domestic universities, forming a high‑level teaching team with WFIT characteristics structured by “registered professors + contract‑based professors + basic faculty team”. One teaching team was awarded the title of Shandong Provincial‑level Teaching Team, and three teachers won the honor of Shandong Provincial Distinguished Teacher.

The University steadily implements the strategy of open‑door schooling, open education and internationalized schooling. Accurately grasping the tasks and missions of open‑door education in the new era, it carries out extensive domestic and international exchanges and cooperation. It has signed comprehensive assistance and cooperation agreements with Qingdao University, with secondary schools providing counterpart support to comprehensively upgrade school‑running standards. It has also signed cooperation agreements with Linyi University to build substantial and close‑knit cooperative partnerships. Strengthening exchanges and cooperation with universities in Southeast Asia, it has successively carried out cooperative master’s and doctoral training programs with Universiti Sarawak Malaysia, University of Baguio in the Philippines, and Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology in the Philippines. Fully aligning itself with international standards, it provides broader opportunities for faculty and students for further study and employment.

It has achieved remarkable results in scientific research, scientific and technological innovation, and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. The university has undertaken 2 major scientific and technological innovation projects under the Key Research and Development Program of Shandong Province, 1 project of the Natural Science Foundation of Shandong Province, 2 basic capacity‑building projects for private universities in Shandong Province, 6 scientific research projects of Shandong Provincial Universities, 10 social science planning projects of Shandong Province, as well as dozens of municipal‑prefectural‑level projects and dozens of horizontal research projects. It has been granted 79 national patents, won 1 Second Prize of Weifang Science and Technology Progress Award and 1 Excellent Achievement Award for Social Sciences of Weifang. One Shandong Big Data Innovative Talent Base and five Weifang Key Laboratories have been approved. In recent years, students have won 228 national‑level competition awards including those from the National College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, National Energy‑Saving and Emission‑Reduction Competition, National Software and Information Technology Competition, National Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling Finals, and National College Students' Software Design Competition. They have also obtained 530 provincial‑ministerial‑level competition awards from events such as the Shandong Provincial College Students' Science and Technology Innovation Competition and Electronic Design Competition, with more than 1,800 person‑times of award‑winning.
