Practical guidance on applying to Chinese universities.

How to apply to a Chinese university as an international student: the complete 2027 guide
Applying to a Chinese university takes six to nine months. You choose programmes, gather your diploma, transcripts and passport, get them apostilled, take a language test if the programme is taught in Chinese, then apply directly through each university's own online portal. Most universities decide within four to ten weeks.

Bachelor's in Guangdong with free accommodation for all four years
A university in Guangdong Province offers English-taught bachelor's degrees in International Economy and Trade and in Computer Science with a four-year scholarship: tuition drops from ¥34,800 to ¥15,000 a year and the ¥7,800 dormitory fee is waived entirely. No CSCA exam. Ages 18–25, application deadline 30 September 2026.

No CSCA, no interview: a bachelor's in Chengdu with 56% off tuition
A university in Chengdu admits international students to two English-taught bachelor's programmes — International Economics and Trade, and Computer Science and Technology — on documents alone: no CSCA exam and no interview. A scholarship cuts tuition from ¥29,500 to ¥13,000 a year. Ages 16–28 can apply until 30 October 2026.

Bachelor's in Chengdu: three English-taught IT majors with a scholarship
A private university in Chengdu focused on IT and applied sciences is admitting international students to three English-taught bachelor's programmes for Autumn 2026. Tuition is ¥12,500 a year after a scholarship discount, a quad-room dorm is ¥2,000 a year, applicants must be 16–25, and the deadline is 15 September 2026.

Language year vs. direct degree entry: which one fits you
Choose a language year if you want a Chinese-taught degree and have no HSK certificate yet, or if your school results are weak for direct entry. Choose direct entry if your programme is English-taught, or if you already hold the HSK level the university requires. The language year costs one extra year.

HSK requirements explained: what level you actually need for what
HSK is the standard Chinese proficiency test for non-native speakers. Chinese-taught bachelor's programmes typically require an intermediate certificate, and competitive programmes require more. English-taught programmes require no HSK at all. On 1 July 2026 the nine-level HSK 3.0 standard replaced the previous six-level test worldwide.

What documents you need to apply to a Chinese university (and how to get them certified)
A Chinese university application needs a passport, your school or university diploma, full transcripts, a language certificate, a physical examination record and a non-criminal record certificate. Since November 2023 diplomas and transcripts from Apostille Convention countries need an apostille, not consular legalisation, plus a certified translation.

Application deadlines for Chinese universities: how the calendar actually works
Chinese universities set their own application deadlines; there is no national date. For a September intake most windows run from January to April, and for February intakes from September to November. Scholarship deadlines close months earlier, and universities stop reviewing once their international quota is full.
